Author, Speaker & Screenwriter
I wrote the screenplay, Cream of the Crop, with a subject in mind that is dear to my heart - the preservation of family farmland for future generations. The relationship that develops between the principal characters personifies the struggle that faces so many farm families today – the desire to keep the farm that they love against all odds.
The screenplay is dramatic, action-packed, humorous, and uplifting. Through a partnership with Douglas Maddox of DBM Films and his amazing team, I plan to produce and develop it as an independent film. My experience as an author, college professor, wrangler, farm owner and SAG/AFTRA actor with principal roles in The Sixth Sense, 12 Monkeys, and Hope’s Legacy will help me achieve my goal.
In short, the production of this screenplay is the realization of a lifelong dream for me!
SYNOPSIS:
Jodi Stafford is a high school Ag Science teacher in a desperate struggle to save her ailing family farm from the hands of developers. Mike Jared is a driven young marketing specialist rising quickly through the ranks of commercial real estate.
When the two meet, Mike becomes deeply involved in Jodi's world and must ultimately decide between his love for her and his career with the real estate company determined to develop her family's land.
His decision comes as a shock to everyone.
JoAnn S. Dawson is the award winning author of the Lucky Foot Stable Series, a five book series for ages 8-13 chronicling the adventures of two lively girls and their horses. In 2017 she released her book Bed, Breakfast & Beyond: Twenty Years of Kooky Guests, Gentle Ghosts, and Horses in Between.
JoAnn uses her experiences growing up on a dairy farm, as an author, as an actress, and as an owner of a successful horse farm and bed & breakfast to entertain, educate and inspire. She offers four presentations for agri-tourism, farm bureaus, equine programs, 4-H and FFA, women in agriculture, learning institutions and others.
